We deep thinkers can have a hard time enjoying life.

We deep thinkers can have a hard time enjoying life. This is especially true now.

We’re always processing and preparing, trying to understand why.

We’re always searching for more, for better. Our idealistic ways push us to continually improve.

But life, even in hard times, brings us small moments that we can enjoy. We have to allow the time and space to enjoy them. We have to find a way to pause that thing we love doing, thinking.

In the past 6 weeks, I’ve seen myself thinking things through so much that it is hard to notice the good things.

From researching the best tool to communicate with others while social distancing to considering all the possible ways to obtain food and the impacts of those options, there is a lot to think about these days. It is all more important that the topics my mind usually likes to reflect on, so I’ve been thinking more deeply than normal. It is exhausting. I’m second guessing so much.

I’ve had to allow for time to simply enjoy. From the sun shining through the window to the friend who reached out, I’ve been asking my busy mind to just appreciate these things, for at least a moment.

To my fellow deep thinkers: Trust that you can give your mind a rest for a moment to find delight in something. It will be okay. And you can get right back to pondering all sorts of topics after taking this small moment to enjoy.

You are allowed to find pleasure in something right now. Please don’t keep yourself from enjoying what life brings.
